- Barbour  is also currently  preparing  for three  new additional  exhibitions in  2006-2007 .  Two will be located in Washington, DC., ( Georgetown  section)   and  in  NYC.   in  2006 . Another  new  exhibition in Italy will take  place  in  2007

James Xavier Barbour Commissioned By Director To Create Sculptures For Upcoming  Movie/Film:  The Confessional

 

Director  and  Filmmaker  James Anthony Cotton  commissioned Painter and Sculptor James Xavier Barbour  to create  a series  of  sculptures  for  the upcoming feature film The  Confessional.

The  film  is slated  for an  early  2007  release  and  features  new sculptures by  Barbour throughout the  film.  Director James A. Cotton  who was  familiar  with the  work  of Barbour  and  asked the  artist to be  the  official  sculptor  for  the film .

James Xavier Barbour  has  stated that he  was  honored  to  be  selected to work  on the film. He  was asked to create roughly twelve  small sculptures  purposely  left  within various  stages of  completion.

James Xavier Barbour  Selected / Commissioned  For A  Series  Of  New Murals In  The San  Francisco  Bay  Area

Now on view:

- For  centuries , the  story found  in the Homer’s epic poem the Iliad  was regarded  as  only myth  until  the ruins  of  what is now thought to be  the ruins of the city  were  found in western Turkey at  Hisarlik in the  mid   19th  century.  James Xavier Barbour was asked by to complete a series five paintings inspired  by the  epic  story  of  the  Battle of  Troy   for  the  new  restaurant  Troya    located at 349 Clement Street  San Francisco  California 94118 completed in  April  2006 .

-A completed  80 ft ceiling mural  located  in Alameda California  at  1821 Webster Street  near  Buena  Vista  Avenue .  The huge work  was completed  on  January 26 , 2006  by James Xavier Barbour in  only  six  days  of  time .  It was  opened  to the general  public just in  time  for  Chinese  New Year .

-Completed a large private mural  commission for  well respected  psychotherapist Dr. Judy Martin MS.  It  was completed  in April  2006 located in San Francisco, California

James Xavier Barbour Nominated By Internal Committee to Participate In The  Fifth Annual Biennial of Contemporary Art/ Biennale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea In Florence, Italy

 

James Xavier Barbour was recently nominated by the Internal Committee to participate in the Fifth Annual Biennial of Contemporary Art/ Biennale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea. His work will be displayed from the 3rd-11th of December 2005, in the exhibition space of the historic Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy.

Barbour will be in attendance in Florence, Italy for a private exhibition reception in acceptance of this honor.

The Biennale Exhibition is organized under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and has won the official endorsement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Region of Tuscany, the Province and the City of Firenze, in addition to many International Embassies.

David Rubin, Curator of Visual Arts, Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans.

Elza Ajzenberg, Professor of art and communication. Director of the MAC, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Julian Zugazagoitia, Director of El Museo del Barrio, New York.

R.B. Bhaskaran, Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi, National Academy of Art, India.

An official color catalog of the exhibition will be published.

James Xavier Barbour  Selected  To Receive The George Sugarman Grant

Painter  and Sculptor,  James Xavier Barbour has  been  chosen  to receive  an artistic  grant  from the establishment  of the George Sugarman Foundation, Inc.

The award  was  given  in honor  of his artistic contributions to painting  and sculpture .

The  George Sugarman  Grant  was  established in memory  of  the prolific, controversial, forward  thinking American artist George Sugarman . His  work in painting, sculpture, and  drawing  defy a  definitive style . As an innovator in pedestal free  sculpture and  vividly painted metal sculptures, Sugarman was  continually  expanding  on the   metamorphoses of his prodigious creativity.

James Xavier Barbour  On Exhibition  At  The Beau Monde Cielito  Gallery In San Francisco

An  exhibition  of various paintings  and  drawings  of  the  artist James Xavier Barbour opened  to fantastic  reviews  by  both critics  and  public on  October  7,  2005 at the opening of  The  Beau Monde  Cielito Gallery  in San Francisco , CA.

The artist was in attendance at the opening reception .

James Xavier Barbour  Exhibition  At The Masur Museum Of Art

Recently exhibited at Masur Museum of Art from March 21st-May 1st 2004. He was invited by the museum and selected from 282 adult artists who submitted from around the nation by Dr. Randall Griffey, Associate Curator of American Art, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO. Dr. Griffey has also written a review of the exhibition.

"Surreal Self Portrait" by James Xavier Barbour was recently selected for exhibition in the "Realism 2003 International Exhibition “ at the Stage Gallery in New York.  The opening At Stage Gallery will take place Feb 28.  And will be on display until April 13, 2003 He was also recently invited to show paintings in the Art Expo of NY. 

Current ongoing exhibitions include the Art Gallery of Kingwood in Texas, as well as in New York.

New Book To Be Published

James Xavier Barbour is currently working on a book and a new series of large paintings for an upcoming show in California and in New York. Barbour has also undertaken a new commission for a new mural in San Francisco, California and is in the final stage of completion.
